Biography

Artem Volodymyrovych Pivovarov was born on 28 June 1991 in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region. A small industrial town, an ordinary family. His father left before his son turned one — couldn't take on the responsibility. He came back occasionally for a while but he was only 19 himself, and fatherhood felt impossible. His grandfather stepped in: took Artem fishing, on picnics, was constantly there and genuinely believed his grandson would make it in music — when everyone else was pushing for a "real" career. His mother was a nurse, his grandmother a seamstress.

Music came early. At 12 he enrolled at music school to study guitar. Dropped out without finishing. He kept playing on his own, wrote his own melodies, put together informal bands. As a teenager he founded a group called Farse, where he sang and played guitar.

After ninth grade he enrolled at Vovchansk Medical College — qualified as a paramedic-obstetrician. To pay tuition he sold the most valuable thing he had: his guitar. Later he studied at the National Academy of Municipal Economy in Kharkiv, earning a bachelor's degree in ecology. Two degrees. Neither is in music.

Throughout all of this he kept writing and recording. From 2011 to 2012 he was the frontman of the Kharkiv alternative rock group Dance Party.Dance!Dance!, releasing the album Boh Sdelal By Pohromche with them. Then he decided to go further alone. He took the alias Art Rey, started recording acoustic tracks and uploading them to YouTube. The first videos pulled thousands of views — no label, no producer, nothing but his own effort.

2017 — moved to Kyiv. Just a guitar, a laptop and plans. Found a team quickly and set up his own production company. Everything after is the result of his own work.

On 28 June 2025, on his birthday, President Zelensky signed a decree awarding Artem Pivovarov the title of People's Artist of Ukraine. At 34.

From invisible author to Palace of Sports records

Before the 2017 breakthrough Pivovarov was living a double life. By day he wrote commercial music — sometimes spending months on a single track because the client "just didn't like it" and kept sending it back. He couldn't quit: the 400-500 dollar fees were the only way he could fund his own creative work, make videos, promote his own songs. An anonymous writer invisible behind the artists he served.

At the same time he ran a YouTube series called Nevidomi (Unknown) — about exactly these kinds of invisible music authors, people who create but stay in the shadow of performers. About himself, essentially.

The video for Kysen exploded online. Two solo albums had already been released, but that clip made the name Artem Pivovarov public. 2017 — top 10 most in-demand Ukrainian musicians on YouTube.

His genre: new wave pop. He writes everything, produces everything. Describes his music as having depth without unnecessary pretension — about the concrete, the personal, the real. His first Ukrainian-language song appeared back in 2014 — Khvylyny. After 2022 he switched entirely to Ukrainian and speaks publicly about language as a civic position, not a marketing choice.

The Tvoyi Virshi, Moyi Noty project

The most significant cultural project of Artem Pivovarov's career is Tvoyi Virshi, Moyi Noty (Your Poems, My Notes), launched in 2021. The idea is simple and radical: take poems by classical and contemporary Ukrainian poets and turn them into fully realised pop songs. Not recitations with backing music — actual songs that sound like 2020s music and land in radio rotation.

Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Pavlo Tychyna, Volodymyr Sosiura, Bohdan-Ihor Antonych, Panteleimon Kulish. Modern arrangements, modern sound. Each track is a separate collaboration. The project brought in Kalush, DOROFEEVA, Oleh Skrypka, Zlata Ohnevich, Max Barskikh, NK, alyona alyona and others.

Dumy — on Shevchenko's verses. Tam U Topoli — with NK, a modern take on folk poetics. Tak Nikho Ne Kokhav (Nobody Loved Like This) — with Max Barskikh on Sosiura's lines, lead single of the second album. O, Panno — with the group The Vusa, which Pivovarov himself founded as an extension of the project. Nich Yaka Misiachna — the final track of the first major cycle, released 2 October 2024.

On Tak Nikho Ne Kokhav Pivovarov explained: "I wrote this song before the project even launched. It had many versions and was waiting for its time and the right artist. I'm grateful Max agreed — that's why it came out the way it did."

March 2023 — compilation album Tvoyi Virshi, Moyi Noty Pt.1. November 2024 — Pt.2. YUNA 2025 — three nominations based on this project's material. The project continues as a long-term cultural initiative.

As an extension, Pivovarov founded the band The Vusa — a separate musical project at the intersection of humour, music and poetry. On 25 October 2024 the first clip of the VIRSHINSHI project, Sohodni, was released.

Concerts

Artem Pivovarov is one of Ukraine's most active touring artists. He tours every year, performing with his full live band — not a backing track. Covers large arenas and smaller outdoor venues alike.

2024 was a landmark year. Pivovarov became the first artist since Ukrainian independence to sell out the Kyiv Palace of Sports three consecutive nights. The proceeds went to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Charitable giving has been a consistent part of his concert activity since 2022.

The 2020 pandemic stopped the planned Zemnoy tour of Ukraine and Europe. After it ended Artem returned to active touring and escalated the pace each year.

2026 tour: Zaporizhzhia (State Circus, late March – early April), Chernivtsi (Summer Theatre, Shevchenko Park, June), Uzhhorod (Amphitheatre, June), Bucha (Yuvileinyi Stadium, June), Odesa (Opera and Ballet Theatre, August). Performing with his full band. International diaspora shows in Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and others — full schedule at artempivovarov.com.

What a Pivovarov concert is like

A Pivovarov concert is a constructed show, not a playlist run-through. He builds it with a narrative arc and a genuine emphasis on live sound. Guitar, drums, keys, backing vocals — not a "plus" where the artist sings over a recording.

Sets span his whole catalogue, from Kysen and Ochi to the newest Tvoyi Virshi material. New songs often premiere live before they appear in streaming. A standard concert runs two to two and a half hours with one or two encores. The setlist varies noticeably between shows on the same tour.

2024 made the scale clear: three sold-out nights at the Palace of Sports is no longer just a ticket sales story — it's a cultural event of a kind his career hadn't seen before.

Television and media projects

2024 — coach on Voice of the Country 13 on 1+1. His first experience as a coach on a major national talent show. In October 2024 he announced a joint song with members of his team.

The Nevidomi series (2016) — an original YouTube documentary series about modern music creators who remain invisible behind performers. Conceptually about the people Pivovarov himself had been before the breakthrough.

Awards

People's Artist of Ukraine (2025, Zelensky decree, on his birthday). YUNA Best Song (2021). YUNA Best Artist (2022). YUNA 2025 — three nominations: best song, best duet (Baraban feat. Klavdia Petrivna), best album (Tvoyi Virshi, Moyi Noty Pt.2).
